Winter Challenge 2016 Fires Off at CSP this Weekend!

Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (January 21, 2016) – The initial “traditional” Sprint Car races of the year in North America take place this weekend as Winter Challenge 2016 kicks off at the 1/3-mile Canyon Speedway Park near Phoenix.

Following an open practice session on Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the first of five rounds of Winter Challenge 2016 competition follows on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. with ensuing rounds of action on Saturday and Sunday.

After this weekend’s trio of events, Winter Challenge 2016 at Canyon Speedway Park will wrap up with another pair of shows on next Friday and Saturday, January 29-30. The green flag will fly on Friday events at 7:00 p.m. with all Saturday and Sunday cards firing off at 5:00 p.m.

The wingless Sprint Cars of the USAC Southwest vs. USAC West Coast Sprint Car series will headline all five rounds of action with IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars vs. Pure Stocks in action each night as well.

Rounding out the card on this weekend’s opening three rounds will be Mod Lites and Micros with the IMCA Hobby Stocks vs. Renegades and Dwarf Cars joining in on the final two rounds next weekend.

Brady Bacon has topped the opening leg of the Winter Challenge at CSP over each of the past two years. Dave Darland went on a tear with three wins after Bacon bested the opener two years ago, while Ryan Bernal reeled off a pair of CSP wins last year.

Bacon, the 2014 USAC National Sprint Car champion, is among those expected in a stellar field of Sprint Cars that includes Bryan Clauson, USAC Southwest champion R.J. Johnson, Charles Davis, Jr., Mike Martin, New Mexico’s Josh Hodges and many more.
